PBIS at East Lake School
We strive to create a positive and supportive learning environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We proudly implement the Positive Behavioural Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework to promote positive behaviour and prevent unwanted behaviours for all students at East Lake.
What is PBIS?
PBIS is a proactive approach to school-wide discipline that focuses on teaching and reinforcing positive behaviours to create a safe and inclusive school culture. It is based on the belief that all students can learn appropriate behaviour when provided with clear expectations, consistent support, and positive reinforcement.
Our PBIS Framework:
1. Clear Expectations: We establish clear and concise behavioural expectations for all areas of our school, including classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and playgrounds. These expectations are explicitly taught to students and are consistently reinforced by staff members.
2. Positive Reinforcement: We believe in celebrating and acknowledging positive behaviour. Our PBIS framework emphasizes the use of positive reinforcement strategies such as praise, encouragement, and rewards to recognize students who demonstrate expected behaviours.
3. Tiered Supports: We provide a tiered system of supports to meet the diverse needs of our students. Tier 1 interventions include universal supports for all students, while Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions provide additional support for students who may need more targeted or individualized interventions.
4. Data-Driven Decision Making: We collect and analyze data on student behaviour to inform our decision-making process. This data helps us identify trends, assess the effectiveness of our interventions, and make adjustments as needed to ensure continuous improvement.
