What to Expect in Grade 5

Grade 5 is a pivotal year filled with opportunities for growth, exploration, and academic achievement. Our dedicated teachers create a dynamic and inclusive classroom atmosphere where students feel empowered to take ownership of their learning and pursue their interests. Here's a glimpse of what your child can expect in Grade 5:

  • Literacy: Building upon foundational skills, students will further develop their reading comprehension, writing proficiency, and critical thinking abilities through rich literature, writing projects, and literacy activities.
  • Numeracy: Math concepts come alive as students dive into multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, geometry, algebraic thinking, and problem-solving in interactive and hands-on ways.
  • Science: From exploring the wonders of the universe to investigating the properties of matter and energy, students will engage in hands-on experiments and scientific inquiry, fostering curiosity and discovery.
  • Social Studies: Through stories, discussions, and projects, students will delve into Canadian history, geography, government, and citizenship, gaining a deeper understanding of our country and its place in the world.
  • Arts and Physical Education: Creative expression and physical activity are integrated into the curriculum through art projects, music, drama, movement, and physical education classes, allowing students to explore their talents and develop healthy habits.
  • Career and Technology Foundations (CTF): CTF offers hands-on learning experiences that ignite curiosity, creativity, and innovation. From exploring digital media and design to learning about local wildlife, CTF empowers students to discover their passions and develop essential skills for future success.
