Learning Commons

What is a Learning Commons?

A Learning Commons is an inclusive, flexible, learner-centered, physical or virtual space for collaboration, inquiry, imagination and play.

You can come here to borrow books and is a quiet space to read. It is an interactive place for Clubs to generate ideas and execute their plans. It is a gathering place for students and staff to meet and collaborate.

The Learning Commons Coordinator is there to help you with finding books, generating ideas and topics for projects, and direct you to the right places to do research for them.  They are a great support and resource of information on who what, where, when, why and how for staff and students with their research and learning needs.

Please encourage your child to take care of his or her books by:

  • Carry books in a bag
  • Keep books dry
  • Wash hands before handling book
  • Keeping food and drink away from books
  • Turn pages with care
  • Keep books away from younger siblings and pets

Students are responsible for the books they check out. If a book is lost or damaged, the student will be responsible for paying the full replacement cost.

Pay for lost or damaged books through SchoolCash here

We do not charge fines for late books, we do charge if a book is irreparably damaged or lost.

Please contact the office if you have any questions.

Land Acknowledgment

Rocky View Schools would like to acknowledge the land and recognize all the Indigenous Peoples whose footprints have marked these lands from time immemorial. Together, we can learn and honour the Ways of Knowing of Indigenous Peoples for all future generations.
