At East Lake School we aspire to be brave problem solvers who embrace challenges, explore possibilities and grow through creative and innovative learning experiences.
Inspiring learners to set goals, persevere, and find success in the emerging process of learning.
At East Lake School, we know we must look at connecting with the social, emotional, and physical well being of each of our students through a personalized teaching approach that acknowledges each student’s strengths and abilities as well as the challenges they may face.
East Lake School has been built to encourage collaborative, cross-disciplinary learning that encourages student ownership, self-direction and responsibility for doing one’s best. Our students are involved in a process of learning that allows for collaboration within a focused, coherent and deliberate framework for learning that encourages creation, academic excellence and celebration.
At the core of everything we do is the desire and the determination to help each and every one of our students achieve their potential.

East Lake is a Nut Aware School
Like many schools in Canada, East Lake has a number of students with life threatening allergies to peanuts and nuts. Many of these allergies cause anaphylaxis and are very serious. As a result, we need to ensure students do not bring any type of nut (peanut, hazelnut, etc.) or products containing nuts (Nutella, peanut butter, etc.) into the school.
What is Anaphylaxis?
Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that can be life threatening. Approximately 1-2% of Canadians live with the risk of an anaphylactic reaction. Food allergies are the most common cause of anaphylaxis. The most common food allergens are peanuts, tree nuts, seafood, egg and milk products. Anaphylaxis can affect multiple body systems. This can range from skin inflammation to anaphylactic shock, which is an explosive over-reaction of the body’s immune system. This can be characterized by swelling, difficulty breathing, abdominal cramps, circulatory collapse, coma and, ultimately death.

Being Nut Aware means you are:
It is everyone's responsibility to help keep all of our students be safe.
Parents of any child with allergies must inform the office and provide appropriate, up to date medication in case of exposure. To keep students with severe allergies safe, we ask that they wear their epi-pens (medication) at all times so it can be accessed easily if needed. It is also a good idea to remind your child with allergies to not share food or eat any outside food that may be brought in to the school for celebrations. While we make every effort to keep students from being exposed to allergens, we cannot guarantee it will never occur.

If you are planning a trip outside of school break times, we ask for your assistance with the following:
1. Please notify your child's homeroom teacher and the office as soon as you know the dates.
2. Please be aware that teachers are not expected to provide work for students in advance of these trips. The parent and student assume responsibility for missed assignments/curriculum. Assignments missed are to be completed upon return to school. You are very welcome to discuss any of this information with your child's teacher.
]]>Under Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy legislation (FOIP), all volunteers are required to commit to confidentiality and fill out a Confidentiality form prior to volunteering at school.
Rocky View Schools requires that all volunteers provide a criminal background check. Background checks are considered valid for 5 years, with an Annual Statutory Declaration. A letter is available at the office specific to East Lake School and is needed to apply at the RCMP detachment.
Each school year, potential volunteers must attend an orientation.
Volunteers are also required to sign in at the office and wear a nametag for security reasons and in the event of a school evacuation. Parent Volunteers are organized through School Council and the classroom teachers. Volunteering is very rewarding and connects parents to their child’s school experience.
